ABC's GMA Devotes 15 Minutes to Dem Race; 31 seconds to GOP

There was one additional segment on the presidential campaign. But since it related to the general subject of the human brain and how people make political decisions, I did not include it in the time count. However, the tone of the piece did follow GMA's template of emphasizing Democrats over Republcians. In the segment, correspondent Claire Shipman looked at a new company that claims to be able to be able to discern what Americans really think about a politician, based on chemical reactions in the brain.

As ABC has repeatedly done in the past, Shipman speculated over whether this would show whether voters will "really pull the lever for a woman, an African-American." At the close of the piece, the network journalist admitted, "Now, we didn't have any indication from our group that they would hesitate to support a woman or an African-American.

School, Lindsay Roberts deny all

Oral Roberts University and its president's wife, Lindsay Roberts, issued written statements Saturday saying that claims and accusations added to a lawsuit Friday are untrue.

A report attached to the lawsuit Friday contains allegations that Roberts, 51, spent a great deal of time with an underage male.

"I live my life in a morally upright manner and throughout my marriage have never, ever engaged in any sexual behavior with any man outside of my marriage as the accusations imply," Roberts said in her statement.

"Allegations against me in a lawsuit .

R. Carriere from Maritimes, Canada writes:

The Ontario constitution apparently forbids the province from collecting taxes from citizens outside of Canada, but this teensy technicality apparently gets overlooked because CRA is the one collecting the taxes. Premier McGuinty is quick to whine about federal transfer payments, while at the same time switches his tune to wink, wink, say no more concerning this windfall. Seizing of homes too easy in Md.

When you sue a Marylander for a couple of thousand dollars, he must receive personal notice, a courtroom trial and ample opportunity to appeal. But when you foreclose on his home, none of those bothersome technicalities apply. What kind of system is that?

Lenders are seizing thousands of Maryland houses because owners can't or won't make payments. Many of these cases involve weird mortgages whose monthly obligations rise over time.

This is not to excuse borrowers' duty to learn about loans and stay current. Many proposed reforms could go too far to protect irresponsible borrowers, which would unnecessarily increase loan costs for everybody.

But the protections for somebody faced with losing a house should be at least as high as those for somebody who gets sued over a plumbers' bill or a bar bet.

Timber Industry 1991-2000

This is more than 24% of the world's forest reserves. In contrast to the rest of the world, the area under forest in Russia is slowly increasing rather than decreasing. Russia can produce up to 650 million cubic meters of timber per year without environmental damage. However, in reality, it produces and processes no more than 130 million cubic meters.

About 1.4 million people work in the industry. Its annual sales volumes exceed $4.5 billion, which is 2.9% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Russian Federation. Up to 85% of production is geared to export: round timber accounts for 33% of exports; lumber, for 19%; and the remainder is comprised of cardboard, pulp, and paper. The industry's foreign deliveries of more than $3.5 billion per year hold fifth place as a source of income after gas, oil, and ferrous and nonferrous metals.

Spineless Democrats

Rob Kall: The DCC Just Hung Up On Me (55 comments) I won't tolerate being in an abusive relationship... and that's what it seems to be turning into between me and the Democratic congress. Shame on them.

Allen L Roland: *GEORGE W BUSH / TORTURER IN CHIEF WITH NO EFFECTIVE OPPOSITION (2 comments) George W Bush will get his payback for his flagrant transgressions of justice as well as the preemptive death and destruction wrought by his administration. It will be devastating and humiliating and this enormous karmic debt will be called before the end of this decade. But it will not be called by the current Congress for there is no Opposition Party representing the vast majority of Americans who are fed up with Bush.
